Spring Has Sprung

James Gray, Delaware Plant Manager

March 25, 2010

It is hard to believe that we could possibly be planting corn and beans in 3 to 4 weeks. This time of year reminds me of my wife at Christmas. There is always a list of things to get done before we are ready. I am sure most of you have your seed, chemicals and fertilizer lined up for the season. If not, be sure to visit any of our plants and let us assist you in getting the things on your list done in time for planting.

We still have a good supply of seed. Also, this year we are looking at two newer chemicals, Corvus for corn and Sharpen for beans. They looked very good in plots and fields last year. Both are low rate technologies, which means less material to handle.

During this time of the year, we all try to get a lot done in a very short amount of time. So please, let us help you with your plans to get everything on your list done. Stop in and let us share information that hopefully will help you breeze through Spring.

Be safe and happy planting!

New Look To Your Statements!

Jeffrey Ward, Controller

January 2, 2010

Your December statements will be in the mail shortly. Once you receive yours, you may notice that the format has changed slightly, as we’ve been in the process of transitioning to a new computer system. Please take a few moments to familiarize yourself with the new look and be sure to let us know if you have any questions.

A few things have changed, which will hopefully bring added convenience to you:

  • There is now a tear-off remittance stub on your statement that should be returned with your payment, to assist us in correctly applying your payment.
  • Account payments can now be made at any of our three locations, no matter where you normally do business.
  • Customers who do business at two or three of our locations will now have all charges billed to the same account/statement.

In the coming months, we’ll be posting more tips about your new statements, so keep checking back! In the meantime, we’re always just a phone call away should you have any questions.

Finally Some New Tools in the Toolbox

Tim Wood, Sales Manager

December 29, 2009

For the first time since the introduction of Roundup Ready® Soybeans, we have a new molecule in the battle against broadleaf weeds. Introduced by BASF, Kixor® herbicide is a very unique chemistry that can be used on corn, beans and wheat in addition to a host of other crops, including fruit and nut trees. The Kixor label provides control of 70 broadleaf weeds, including some that Glyphosate struggles with, including marestail, lambsquarter, and waterhemp, as well common and giant ragweed. Kixor is a pre-emerge only chemistry that offers both burndown and soil residual. Four different products powered by Kixor are being introduced to our market, three of which concern the crops we deal with.

  • SharpenTM, powered by Kixor, is the straight material that can be used on any of the labeled crops, at 1 ounce per acre on soybeans and 2-3 ounces on grass crops, like corn and wheat. Our intention for the 2010 growing season is to add Sharpen to a 2.1 ounce rate of Scepter® as a residual program for both Roundup and Non-Roundup Soybeans.
  • OpTillTM, powered by Kixor, is a combination of Kixor and Pursuit® at a 2 ounce per acre rate for primarily no-till soybeans, to enhance both the burndown and residual of Pursuit.
  • IntegrityTM, powered by Kixor, is a combination of a higher rate of Kixor and Outlook®. This is a good grass material for pre-emerge use on corn. This has the potential to offer a strong choice for watershed acres that cannot use Atrazine. Integrity is labeled to be used at 13 to 16 ounces per acre and is designed to be a set up rate for a two pass system in corn.

In the war against weeds, Kixor may have come just in time. It will help us bridge the gap until Dicamba and 24D soybeans hit the market in a couple years.

We encourage you to stop by any of our three area locations this winter to discuss this exciting new option for weed control in 2010. Supplies of all three new products will be very limited in 2010, so don’t wait too long to get your name on some.
